Frequently asked questions

What can I expect from therapy sessions with you?

Therapy will be a unique experience with whomever you decide to work with. My belief is that I can never fully know the reasons why you are experiencing what you are, nor can I, or anyone else tell you the best course of action for your life. For this reason, I take a collaborative view of our sessions. Together, we are co-creating a unique experience that will hopefully allow you to look at your life from a different perspective. I am not overly structured, nor do I typically give homework, except in cases when I feel this would be what is most needed for an individual or couple. I will ask a lot of questions about your life, what interests you, and about your relationships with others. I try to leave space open for you to express yourself in whatever way you need to, trusting that you have an inner knowing that will emerge when given the opportunity.

What types of clients do you work with?

I work with adult clients (ages 18+) and couples. Couples do not need to be married to be seen by me. I work with all genders and sexual orientations. I tend to work with many clients in the LGBTQ+ community and clients who are or have been Mormon/LDS, though I am certainly not limited to these groups. I have experience working with a range of mental health diagnoses, from anxiety and depression, to PTSD and bipolar disorder. In short, I work with a wide range of people, although at times I do refer out at times if I do not have the experience needed for a particular situation. Please feel free to ask if you have specific questions.

HoW much do sessions cost and how do I pay?

My private pay rates are as follows:

$150 for individual therapy sessions (50 minutes)

$165 for couples therapy sessions (50 minutes)

When you schedule a first appointment with me, I will save a card to your secure client chart which will not be charged until after the session is completed. You can use a credit or debit card, a Health Savings Account (HSA), or a Flex Spending card (FSA). I also can accept payment from clergy members on your behalf if an arrangement is agreed upon with the clergy member prior to meeting.

Do you accept insurance?

I am paneled with Aetna and Optum insurance companies. Optum includes UnitedHealthcare, Oscar and Oxford. I can run an eligibility check to see if your visits with me would be covered, but it is always best to check with your insurance company directly before starting with a new provider to ensure you would be covered and to clarify your what your out of pocket cost will be.

What is your cancellation policy?

When I schedule with clients, I am setting that time aside specifically for you, so I do ask that if you need to cancel, you do so with as much notice as possible to give me the opportunity to schedule with others during that time. If you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled appointment time or do not show up for the session, I will charge a $100 late cancellation fee.

Is my information private?

Yes. All information that you share in session is confidential and I cannot share it with anyone without your express written permission to do so or in cases of reported child abuse or neglect, or if there is an immediate safety concern. While I may consult with professional colleagues from time to time about work with my clients in order to ensure I am giving you the best services I can, I would not be sharing any identifying information without your permission. All electronic information and communication are stored on HIPPA-compliant platforms.
